With over 28 thousand followers, an impressive feed and an even more impressive friendly attitude, Trevor Traynor (@trevortraynor) is definitely one of our favorites here at the Mobile Media Lab!
MML: Do you shoot with your iPhone for all of the pictures you post on your instagram account? If yes, is it important that your feed remain iPhone only? If no, what else do you shoot with?
TT: Instagram was originally created for people to shoot and edit instantly on their mobile device and I enjoy the simplicity of that. My Instagram feed is iPhone only, shot & edited. I choose to limit my feed to iPhone as a way to showcase my ability to create unique and quality photographs from the most used camera in the world. I also enjoy maximizing the full potential of the iPhone camera and mastering some of the great editing apps that have been created.
With that said, I don’t think Instagram should be iPhone only for everyone. It’s just what I like. To each there own. I shoot with all types of cameras outside my Insta feed. I think as long as people are creating and sharing art, with the source being from the heart, the tool is secondary.
MML: What do you do for a living? How does it relate to instagram (if at all) and if it doesn’t relate, how do you balance both?
TT: I’m a Photographer, Videographer, Director, and Creative Producer. Instagram offers me another platform to showcase and network my photographs. It gives me a way to connect with role models, fans, photographers, artists, and other IGers whose craft I may have never known about. It also provides new opportunities to collaborate with clients via mobile media while still keeping the quality of my vision in focus. Thanks awesome @MMLNYC Crew!!!
MML: Do you have places that you like to continuously go back and shoot?
TT: Subway Systems. For the most part I try and always travel some place new. So many places to see, so little time!
MML: What are your favorite apps to use for photography?
TT: Snapseed, Picfx, Vsco, SlowShutter, PhotoSynth, & Reflection.
Question: Do you like to work in series/projects? or are you a bigger fan of “wandering”
Answer: Both. I prefer to wander new lands and create projects. I’m a grid Junkie so when Instagram came out I was in heaven.
MML: Are you working on any iPhone series/projects right now, if so, what?
TT: I love creating new mobile projects. I try and create a new series every place I travel to. I’m currently working on #TheIronWormAdventures. It’s a documentation of the Subway Underground and my ever growing love for Trains. I’m also always working on my #TheNewsStandSeries
MML: As a photographer in the art/photographic world, have you received any negative feedback towards your decision to use instagram and your iphone as a platform/media?
TT: Having a pocketsize camera bundled with instant results and fingertip access to share to the world via Instagram allows for endless opportunities, connections, and exposure. I have not received any negative feedback but I would be very interested in to hear someone’s arguing points. Stay positive and embrace the growth! Thank you. #peace.
Thanks so much for the interview Trevor!
