Cheap Gas Anyone?

We joined forces with TNT to promote the season 3 premiere of the remake of the 70s/80s TV show Dallas by transforming a regular Manhattan gas station and turning it into a Ewing Gas Station.

TNT transformed the gas station at 466 10th Avenue in Manhattan and turned it into Ewing Energies, with gas at $1.98 per gallon just for the event! This stunt was deemed “one of the biggest stunts in recent TV advertising” by the Huffington Post, and we’re glad to be a part of the way advertising through social media is shaped!

MML Interview With Elise Swopes @swopes

At over 191,000 followers, Elise Swopes (@swopes) has one of the sickest feeds around. Her edits are INSANE and make you just go “wow.”

image

image

We recently chatted with Elise and would love to share what she had to say:

MML: Do you shoot with your iPhone for all of the pictures you post on your Instagram account? If yes, is it important that your feed remain iPhone only?

Swopes: I shoot with only my iPhone and I edit using only my iPhone. Honestly, at first it was really hard to do, now it’s all I know! I’m a graphic designer before a photographer so the tools and such seem like second nature. I don’t think it’s important, necessarily, to stay iPhone only. I just think that it’s so cool to be able to edit on-the-go, and to be able to do something that so many people can’t, but I want to show them that they CAN do it, and teach them. That’s amazing to me.

image

MML: What do you do for a living?

Swopes: I am a student at Columbia College Chicago and a graphic designer. It really works itself out. I do a lot of work through Instagram and meet lots of people through the jobs that I do, which I hope stay with me even if Instagram ceases to exist one day.

MML: How many hours do you spend on Instagram each day?

Swopes: **cough**cough** all day! **cough**cough**

image

MML: Do you have any great stories that exist because of Instagram?

Swopes: Ahhh! The first Instagram trip I went on with Nike to San Francisco! We had a helicopter ride under the Golden Gate Bridge! Also, meeting the Dos Equis Most Interesting Man In The World in New York! That was great! OH OH! OR jumping out of a plane this year too! Honestly I could go on for WAY too long!

MML: What are your favorite (photo) apps to use for both shooting AND editing?

Swopes: I always use the native camera app for the iPhone to shoot. For editing, I use ArtStudio, Filterstorm, VSCOcam, PicFX, SquareReady, and Afterlight.

image

MML: Do you consider yourself to be a photographer?

Swopes: Nah, I take terrible photos, but I can edit the crap out of a photo to look dope. Actually, I get lucky, but I can’t work a real camera… not until that day that I can.. then I’ll be a photographer but until then I’m a graphic designer and an artist overall.

MML: As a photographer/instagrammer in the art/photographic world, have you received any negative feedback towards your decision to use instagram and your iphone as a platform/media? How do you respond to the negativity.

Swopes: My oh my, it used to be bad! I would just block people so I would never have to deal with them anymore, whether I’ve been doing great with molding my art with commissioned post, or I’ve just blocked at the weirdos, either way… I’m happy and my follow count continues to grow. Even if it didn’t, it still feels great knowing that I have the power to make something out of nothing. Gives me really great inspiration for my future endeavors.

MML Interview with Trevor Traynor

With over 28 thousand followers, an impressive feed and an even more impressive friendly attitude, Trevor Traynor (@trevortraynor) is definitely one of our favorites here at the Mobile Media Lab!

image

image

We had a chance to ask Trevor a few questions, check out what he had to say!

MML: Do you shoot with your iPhone for all of the pictures you post on your instagram account? If yes, is it important that your feed remain iPhone only? If no, what else do you shoot with?

TT: Instagram was originally created for people to shoot and edit instantly on their mobile device and I enjoy the simplicity of that. My Instagram feed is iPhone only, shot & edited. I choose to limit my feed to iPhone as a way to showcase my ability to create unique and quality photographs from the most used camera in the world. I also enjoy maximizing the full potential of the iPhone camera and mastering some of the great editing apps that have been created.

With that said, I don’t think Instagram should be iPhone only for everyone. It’s just what I like. To each there own. I shoot with all types of cameras outside my Insta feed. I think as long as people are creating and sharing art, with the source being from the heart, the tool is secondary.

image

MML: What do you do for a living? How does it relate to instagram (if at all) and if it doesn’t relate, how do you balance both?

TT: I’m a Photographer, Videographer, Director, and Creative Producer. Instagram offers me another platform to showcase and network my photographs. It gives me a way to connect with role models, fans, photographers, artists, and other IGers whose craft I may have never known about. It also provides new opportunities to collaborate with clients via mobile media while still keeping the quality of my vision in focus. Thanks awesome @MMLNYC Crew!!!

MML: Do you have places that you like to continuously go back and shoot?

TT: Subway Systems. For the most part I try and always travel some place new. So many places to see, so little time!

image

MML: What are your favorite apps to use for photography?

TT: Snapseed, Picfx, Vsco, SlowShutter, PhotoSynth, & Reflection.

Question: Do you like to work in series/projects? or are you a bigger fan of “wandering”

Answer: Both. I prefer to wander new lands and create projects. I’m a grid Junkie  so when Instagram came out I was in heaven.

MML: Are you working on any iPhone series/projects right now, if so, what?

TT: I love creating new mobile projects. I try and create a new series every place I travel to.  I’m currently working on #TheIronWormAdventures. It’s a documentation of the Subway Underground and my ever growing love for Trains.  I’m also always working on my #TheNewsStandSeries

image

MML: As a photographer in the art/photographic world, have you received any negative feedback towards your decision to use instagram and your iphone as a platform/media?

TT: Having a pocketsize camera bundled with instant results and fingertip access to share to the world via Instagram allows for endless opportunities, connections, and exposure. I have not received any negative feedback but I would be very interested in to hear someone’s arguing points.  Stay positive and embrace the growth! Thank you. #peace.

Thanks so much for the interview Trevor!
